I will try and try until I realised that person is a numbskull. I will give up and give in to him/her..

So know that situation. It depends on if it's friends/family or a partner. For the former I'd give up and get out of the situation so I can be alone for a bit and enjoy my intelligence. With a partner, it'll mean I might have to eventually leave the relationship, shows a lack of compromise esp. if I know I put in so much of effort to see things his way.

Depends who you're talking to. With some people, it's not even worth trying!

Honey, let it go! If a person thinks positive, your response will be positive -- negativity will be negative.
