In the first trimester it's totally safe to sleep on your stomach. The baby is so far inside you that it can't hurt anything.
In the second trimester it's less clear whether that's a safe sleeping position. If you honestly can't sleep any way but on your stomach, you could have pillows made to support you so that you don't squeeze your stomach.
In the third trimester, I'd like to see you try! ; )

This one solves itself as baby grows. Not only does it become uncomfortable, obviously we are beginning to feel those Mom hormones kick in. At a certain point, if you cause baby discomfort he or she will kick you till you move, or plant a tiny foot into a lung. Quite a presuasive reason to shift position.
Try not to worry so much. I know it is part of the deal, but..........babies are really tough little creatures. And that you asked this question affirms that you have good instincts.
That also plays in to naming the baby. After nine months you have a feel for the personality of the baby you carry.
My first I named Brock, it is a strong name. And he was a strong baby. He is now a strong man.
My second I named Jeremy because while he was inside he was "easy" little did I know he was saving it up.
LOL......Just be sure to really savor this time in your life.
Best wishes to you.

Well, there is a school of thought that says that you should sleep on your left side because there is a main artery that runs through your back and if you sleep flat on your back it can slow blood flow to the baby. However, you can sleep on your stomach as long as it is comfortable. Your baby is well insulated in his amniotic fluid. Cherish this time because at some point it will not be. It is all worth it in the end! Good Luck!

try sleeping on your side (especially the left side) is most commonly recommended, you can also sleep safely on your stomach. train yourself to sleep on your left side early on, you'll have an easier time falling asleep when your belly is bulging later.
During the second half of pregnancy, avoid sleeping on your back. its dangerous for your baby. There's no problem lying on your stomach in early pregnancy. At this point, your uterus is still nestled behind your pubic bone, so it's totally protected. Later in your pregnancy, sleeping on your stomach just isn't going to be comfortable. You'd be uncomfortable long before you could ever hurt your baby

You can sleep on your stomach until about your 4th month. After that you should sleep on your left side. Its not good for the baby to have his/her weight on your back so you cant sleep that way and if you sleep on your right side it puts to much pressure on your organs.

Ive read that it is not harmful to the baby. I sleep on my stomach too. They say that eventually it will become uncomfortable though. So then you might have to switch to either side

I think my Dr. recommended sleeping on my left side as much as possible. Either side is O.K>, but, I think sleeping on your left side is supposed to help with your digestive system.
