Why do we judge people before we get to know them?

I do not find it hard to trust people who are racially different from me. I have literally trusted health care providers of many races with my life in their hands. I have had surgeries done by Mexican, White and Black surgeons. I have gone to White, Black (American and African), Pakistani, and Indian health care providers. My current health care provider is Puerto Rican.

Similarly, the people I entrusted to educate me were from virtually every continent. I feel that I am so blessed to have been cared for, educated and mentored by such a wonderful group of people.

This diversity is also reflective of the friendships I have. I associate with a diverse group of people. My family is diverse and we have never suffered the ills of exclusion or separation.

All in all, I cannot say your question applies to my life, because I was raised to value people for their uniqueness.

Whether we admit it or not we all have our own prejudices. It's a self-help mechanism. It's developed in our brains so that we feel we know a little about people before we "know" them. For example, if you see a big strong man with a gun and an angry face are you going to run up and say hi? No. We can protect ourselves with the help of prejudices. It's in everyone. However some people take it to the extreme ie..racists.

Different races can have different sets of values, beliefs and culture. Sometimes these differences make it hard for peope to get to know each other. Tolerence and mutual respect is the key but this seems to be declining to some degree.

Different religion, different character, different society, that makes us so hard to trust another race. But sometimes, if I feel that the person in sincere to me, I just trust that person.

Its up to you rather you judge them or not. And as for myself, I don't. Judging people is ridiculous. Simply simple minded and ignorant.

Are you saying that you're not human? Or that others you are meeting are not human?

I don't know who you meet, but I've only ever met people of one race, they just look different.

Lack of experience and confidence on yourself.....but, you´ll be better off not to trust everybody....Second question......that´s human nature.
