Making website from .AI file (Illustrator)?

I have to make a website from an AI file. Is there a direct conversion? what are the steps involved....

You can make a template, similar to photoshop, and there is also a 'save for web' which will help to keep your file sizes down

It is also possible to add links to your graphics, to find out more about this, go to the menu bar>help>illustrator help and then do a search for linking images - this should be quite useful to you.
