Rooster your very wrong the Masons descended from the Templar's directly! Most of our symbols of York Rite Masonry are the same symbols And Roslyn chapel in Scotland has a Templar symbol carved next to the 3rd degree of masonry. Carved during the 1300's Free Masonry in the US was co-founded by a Catholic brother and I'm a Catholic Mason.
Freemasons are a fraternity "men only" There is also a female version called the Eastern Star. They have three appendent bodies the York Rite, Scottish Rite, and Shriners. Masons raise money for charity providing millions of dollars a day to various charities and it costs about 8 million a day to run a Shriners hospital where a child is treated at no charge. A society of secrets rather than a secret society all our rituals are plastered all over the Internet. But our grips, keys, and tokens are kept as secret as possible in the information age. Another words don't believe all you read on the Internet!

The Free Masons originated from a Fraternal order named The Rosicrucians,(A.M.O.R.C.) Named for the Rosetta Stone and the free thinkers were basically Christian but embraced all beliefs. This organization has existed for eons. However the Free Masons broke off from the original order and became focused on a separate ideal, and followed a new path in secret, namely the order of the Free Masons. Restricting membership (the Great White Brotherhood), or (Illuminaties), are also in link with them as well. Prior to WW11 these men were instrumental in many government secrets and carried out many secret orders on all sides of government appointing themselves as guardians of what they felt was moral and holy according to them. The women in this organization are called the Northern Stars. The Rosicrucians embrace all and no descrimination of race creed or color and purely educate from a standard of a higher philosophy that no mankind can dictate or control another but that the free will of mankind must be expressed and analyzed to the best of our abilities. Some of the rosicrucians were the very same men who discovered King Tuts Tomb and this is where they get the idea of Masons as well ( the architecture of the Pyramids being stone).
They seem to think they have all the secrets and answers, however they may be intelligent and have some very good ideas but in plain English they are not above anyone else nor are they in control. Destiny has a way of catching up with all of us.

Freemasonry is a fraternal organization whose membership is held together by shared moral and metaphysical ideals and—in most of its branches—by a constitutional declaration of belief in a Supreme Being.

The fraternity of Freemasonry uses the allegorical metaphors of operative stonemasons' tools and implements, to convey what is most generally defined as: A peculiar (some say particular or beautiful) system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols. This is illustrated in the 1991 English Emulation Ritual.

It is an esoteric society only in that certain aspects are private; Freemasons have stated that Freemasonry has, in the 21st century, become less a secret society and more of a "society with secrets." Dr. Dieter Anton Binder, a historian (and not a Freemason) who is a professor at the University of Graz (Austria) describes Freemasonry as a "confidential" society in contrast to a secret society in his book Die diskrete Gesellschaft. Most modern Freemasons regard the traditional concern over secrecy as a demonstration of their ability to keep a promise and a concern over the privacy of their own affairs. "Lodge meetings, like meetings of many other social and professional associations, are private occasions open only to members. The private aspects of modern Freemasonry deal with the modes of recognition amongst members and elements within the ritual.

While there have been many disclosures and exposés dating as far back as the eighteenth century, Freemasons caution that these often lack the proper context for true understanding, may be outdated for various reasons, or could be outright hoaxes on the part of the author. In reality, Freemasons are proud of their true heritage and happy to share it, offering spokesmen, briefings for the media, and providing talks to interested groups upon request.

Today they are commonly know as the "Masonic Lodge" and are seemingly akin to Lion's Club, Rotary Club, etc. There really isn't anything so "secretive" per se anymore, unless you want to believe movies like "National Treasure" and "The DaVinci Code". Historically, they were, but have become less so in modern times. It is an esoteric, fraternal organization which values honor and the ability to keep a promise; they value their confidentiality. It is not a religion, although some dispute that due to the confidential nature of their order.

If no one will tell you I will. The secrets will be claimed as methods of recognition and ritual. Others will make speculative claims it is more like they are the sole group sitting on the true mysteries or tied to templar treasure etc.

There has been only one time I have seen a Mason state the secret was something else in public. Which was stating he felt it was in the symbols.

They started in the 18th century as a secret society and mutual help group. They have many strange rituals like some university clubs. In the modern world they are normally business men who can help each other out of sight of the law. This is very attractive to many crooks. Women are excluded

They're not a secret society, they're a society with secrets. They're a fraternal order of almost exclusively Christian men who seek to improve themselves morally and spiritually. One once said, "We don't make bad men good, we make good men better."

There's an awful lot of speculation linking them to the Knights Templar and the construction of the Temple of Solomon, and a secret plot to rule the world, but it's poppycock. However, it is true that a disproportionately large number of successful men are associated with the Freemasons.

free masons have nothing whatsoever to do with knights templar, reason for this is because the templars would have been catholic who were excluded membership until i think the 1970s,the origins of masons were set up by protestants around the time of bloody mary to protect themselves in buisiness and all thing relevent to protestants ,and as a group it made them stronger.

I will speak only of what I know. I am a Freemason of the esoteric Order, American Co-Masonry. We are not the Lodge down the street from you probably. In some aspects we are not that different, either.

We admit both women and men, over the age of 21, of all races, who believe in a Supreme Being (whatever you call "God" is between you and God), who are tolerant of other faiths and other races, who wish to improve the world by improving themselves. We take only people of good repute - no one who is a crook or slave need apply. Slave includes those who are to drugs, BTW.

We are not a religion but a system of morality, taught by allegory, and illustrated by the symbols of the ancient stone masons.

Why stone masons? Because human behavior is as hard to change as a stone is to mold. There is only one person who can change that behavior and that is the person him or herself.

What is entrusted to the newly initiated Brother (yes, we call women "Brother," too) are small things: grips and words to prove that they are Freemasons. Truth be known, without showing proper registration information, no one would get in to Lodge. But it is in small trusts and their safe-keeping do we learn to trust each other.

If you wish to know the greatest secret I can communicate (although I wonder if you will understand it), I will tell you: it is about alchemy. What we are about is changing the lead in our hearts into gold.

Now that is the esoteric side of Freemasonry, American Co-Masonry. If I can be of service, feel free to write me or to click on the link below to read more.
