I'm married to Korean. We have 1 child but she has microcephaly & cerebral palsy. She is so pretty, sweet & friendly child. Some people said;she looks an angel, she looks so gorgeous and friendly. But my in-laws,they're not proud of her. When we went to the hospital, some patients asked her if she is her grandaughter. She replied "anyo"it means No.I pretend that i didn't heard her answer,i smile but deep inside my heart i felt too pain.Second time, when my in laws visit us here in overseas. She asked me to go shopping with her and my husband. My husband said bring our daughter but my in law said:No,just leave her to our friend. Her face seems not happy if we bring my daughter..I tried to understand my in laws because i know where they came from, they grew up in a country where too much pressure of the society..They are worried if their friends knows that they have disabled grandaughter..Why they worried?if they are true friends they should accept, support and help? Why they feel embarrased..It hurts

that really is so sad that they act that way, any child is a blessing, and just because she is disabled, she shouldnt be treated that way. i hope you talk to your husband and let him know whats going on. Your daughter IS an angel, and she was put in your lives for a reason. They need to REALIZE that.

I also have a child who has cp. I am lucky that my in laws adore him. If I were in your shoes I would have to realize your in laws background and educational level.
I believe if you are smart enough you will be able to win them over. I hope this example helps... if your daughter is in the same room with grandma and looks at grandma and smiles say "oh look she never smiles so big at other people there must be something about you that is special!" Do not push your daughter off onto them, they probably feel uncomfortable on how to handle her, but do allow them to hand her things, play with her, read to her etc. The more they are around her, the more they will be able to find a place in her life that everyone is comfortable with.

Some cultures view children with disabilities as second class people. Some cultures will not allow a disabled child to live. How terribly wrong is that? Your little girl is an angel sent from heaven. If they can't accept her as she is then they need not be included in her life. They are the losers, not you and certainly not your little girl.

Anything/Anyone that hurts or in anyway try to look down at in our children, Stinks!
Maybe they have never been tested by God in other words they have it had it good all there life but believe when I say what go around comes around and they will pay for every little bad thing they do here(earth) on heaven upon God's eyes!
These children are God's way of making our lives easier..
Easier as in happier with their smile and how they make us more considerate people of how lucky we are and underappreciate our well 5 senses and that we're capable of managing for ourselves!
You should stand up for child and confront the annoying family memebers...hey after all if you don't stand up for that child,
Who will???
Good Luck!

I would tell them to jump off, but in your case, if you can cut them off totally, (no contact) eventually they will get the hint, you don't accept my child, you don't accept me and be done with it. If they don't come around it's their problem not yours. maybe they don't understand that there is nothing wrong with having a disabled child, and i advise that you tell them to talk to a health professional about it and maybe their ignorance will be lifted. if not then you know that you did everything you could for your child, and now just protect the child from the ignorance plaguing these people.

Let's hope that these grandparents do not grow old with dementia and other catastrophic disease that afflicts the elders. You know the old saying about karma.

The problem is theirs. If you can persuade them to go to support groups with you and your child maybe they can change.

Don't worry about them as long as your husband is there for you.
