I think a $100-$150 a week is fair depending on what part of Brooklyn. I'm from NY as well and see ads in the paper for rooms for rent at about that range.

I'm not sure, since the only person I know in Brooklyn has had rent control for the past 10 years. What I would suggest is checking out craigs list and other apartment hunting resources and seeing what similar places are going for. you can even pretend to be a potential rentor in order to do your research.
