Well, right now I'm answering your question with my work laptop which is about 2 1/2 years old. But my precious desktop which I use all the time is going to celebrate its 6th birthday in about two months.

Needless to say my desktop has been known to kick the crap out of my work laptop and many of my friends much newer desktops. And I have written programs on it that take all the CPU resources and it has never failed me.

Here are the specs:

Celeron 1.2 Ghz
512 MB of RAM
80 GB Hard-drive (upgrade from 40 GB original)
128 bit NVidia GeForce 4200
Windows XP SP2

Never had a virus or problem with the operating system (Original XP install still running). All I've done is keep the antivirus updated, run defrag once a month, and only keep the programs I use frequently.

I honestly have no idea.
I don't know too much about computers. I looked at the About Windows in My Computer and the most recent date is 2001 which was the year I started using the Internet. I used to be afraid of computers.

The one I'm using is a 2003. The older one, that's still used in the house, is a 1996, with Microsoft 3.1.

2 years or so.

The trick is, to buy one at the state of the art whenever you buy it. They last the longest.

I had a top of the line Gateway (200Mhz Pentium II, 3Gig harddrive) that I bought in 1996. It lasted 7 years, and I even managed to run WinXP on it.

I'm thinking about 2 years old? I should know this, but it's a family computer so... actually it may be 6 years old, with a new moniter. heh.
