My best friend of 2 years forgot my birthday again. I not only remember his birthday but usually do nice things for him. So this year when I reminded him casually that it was my b-day he just shruged and said "oh, I forgot." So the next day I gently mentioned that it hurt my feelings that even after I reminded him, he didn't even say happy birthday. When I said that to him he got upset and stormed out and said "Im going home if youre gonna be mean to me!" I assure you all, I was not even using an angry tone of voice but he took offense. What are your thoughts? Should he have acted this way? I don't want to upset him, but I have feelings too.

you didnt do anything wrong, it was good that you were honest about your feelings. he is your best friend, and best friends are suppose to care about each other. you might want to have a talk with him, maybe there is something wrong going on in his life that he hasnt told you. but if he is a bad friend in other ways, you might want to stop hanging out with him so much.

Wow! with some friends, you sure don`t need enemies. Well perhaps he felt, that after he`d told you he`d "forgot", maybe you`d "forget it", but instead, you brought out the fact that you were hurt, well, mabe he did`nt have enough funds to get you a nice gift he felt you deserve, and did`nt want to give you just any gift, Since your gifts to him are always so nice. but even if you did put him on the spot, he should not have been rude to you for expressing your true feelings, you had that right. better than keeping it in and brooding over it. but now, You be the bigger person to apoligize, just let him know you did`nt think your telling him would offend him,and that you do sincerely apologize. if he is a true friend, he`ll accept it, and apologize to you as well. If not , who needs those type friends.

Maybe you're making it too much of a chore for him. He probably figures since he's your best friend that it's not a big deal. Perhaps next year invite your friend to go hang out with you for a drink. Nothing where he has to buy you anything, but just hanging out and remembering the good times. He might even buy a round for your and your other friends. That means more to some people to do that for a friend than buying gifts by force.

Birthdays are uncomfortable for me. Maybe for him too. Could be he has something in his past relating to birthdays that you're not aware of. I"d say let it go for now. Try and find out if Birthdays are a sore spot for him like they are for me.

Huh. No idea man. I've never been in that situation before (my best friend and I share the same birthday)

Generally guys don't share their feelings with each other, like you described, so he might have just been weirded out, and that's how he responded.

Men dont remember that kind of stuff or really care too much about it. Quit being a baby. And dont miss his bday on purpose, if you like doing things on his day then continue to do it. Some people like that stuff(girls) and some people could care less(guy)

Get a life, please. Special occasions mean different things to people, maybe as a child your friend never was fawned over on his birthday. Next year tell him " let's go out to dinner for my birthday" & pay for it yourself. Good luck.

NO way....he should not have acted like that, but that is a man for ya. He may have felt really guilty for forgetting and that is why he took offense.
