Totally agree with you Steve. I personally did not do anything to anyone. Indians killed Indians Blacks enslaved Blacks. I don't see them jumping on the bandwagon to pay anyone off for the "crimes" of thier ancestors. Everyone needs to get over the past and live for today and the future

Since when do 'The African Americans' get free money?! You're right "you" shouldn't pay. But who's "we". There are different types of people in the government.

I don't know you. You're not giving me money so don't claim to be. And I don't want free money. Earning it honestly is just fine with me.

While what I said was honest and true... Slavery did deprive African Americans of earning money or learning for a very long time. Therefore it is only fair that African-Americans get some kind of pay back so that some, if only few, can get as much money as whites who had money handed down to them from slave owners. Who made them get so rich in the first place? The slaves.

I can work hard an earn my own money and so can anyone. But technically, African-American's are owed alot. Whats been done to "help" 'the African-Americans' can not even scratch the surface of payback.

We are paid back education wise, with scholarships. What's wrong with that. African-Americans who get scholarships are working hard so they can get a job and earn their money. It's not like it's alot of African-Americans either so people like you should be happy.

If you were referring to welfare, well, anybody can be on it buddy. But there is nothing glamorous about it. Not all African-Americans are on it or ever were on it. For example myself so think before you generalize.

how come most opposing answers are below threshold?

My ancestors were on the other side of the planet when all that stuff happened.
Over 80% of all white Americans, are descendents from Ellis Island immigration after 1900.
Meaning, almost every white person in America is NOT a descendant of a slave owner or Indian abuser.

America SHOULD NOT pay them.

As far as slaves, it wasn't even a crime at that time. Most slaves were sold into slavery by their fellow blacks in Africa, which many American blacks are not aware of until they visit Africa and get the truth about it.

Jews were enslaved, too, in Egypt, weren't they?

Other groups have been enslaved and gone on to assimilate. A certain percentage of American Blacks are wallowing in the past and enjoying the welfare system, it should be stopped. And the changes SHOULD be spearheaded by American Black leaders, but that's just not going to happen. Political correctness still rules, which is another way of saying the truth cannot be spoken in public.

Indians LOST wars and battles. Smart Indians have assimilated into American society; lazy drunkards are supported by US taxes to live enjoying their "culture" on desert land not suited for animals.
My family has been in the south (North Carolina since the late 1600s and then Southern Illinois by the late 1700s) Never owned slaves, and fought on the UNION side during the Civil War.
These freeloaders asking for compensation for ancestors ought to get off their lazy a$ses and get an education and make a place for themselves in the real world, like so many of their brothers and sisters have instead of looking for easy way s for others to give them money for getting fat as pigs and producing children like rabbits.

The debt America owes Native americans and Africans who were brought here against their will cannot bepaid back in money. A crime of this magnitude can only be paid back on The judgement day of GOD AND THE PRICE is unknown to me what the Living GOD will require. Jesus said sorrows must come but woe unto the person who they come by.

Cities, towns, businesses, and mostly white people have benefitted from the forced removal of Native Americans off their land. Whether or not you "personally" have benefitted from slavery, or from the genocide and theiving of land is irrelevant. White people in general did, and the U.S. government did, and still does. Yes, Native Americans have money from casinos, but they also are trying to deal with the decimation of their cultures and ways of life. Have you ever been to a reservation? White people like to encourage everyone to leave the past behind and move on, because we know that if we were to be held accountable for the genocide, enslavement, breaking of treaties, etc...we wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

First of all, stop saying blanket statements. I personally don't want a damn thing from you, OK?! Free money?? Get real! I work every day, pay for college, and buy every thing myself. I've never been on government assistance ONCE! Stop overgeneralizing. It's ignorant and annoying.

would you please define 'free money'. a lot of generations of both have suffered horrendously in the past. he**, they still suffer about the same. there are areas in the states I'm told, by black friends, that they would never be caught in. they didn't figure they'd get out alive. look at wounded knee in the states, look towards saskatchewan in canada. does anyone deserve to be in fear of their lives in this so called enlightened era.
those monies they do get allow them to know that at least some people care about what happened, and is happening to them.
