Why do we have to put up with other races who come to us soil that can't speak the language here in America. It is really tiring to go to a store and buy something and ask for help with a employee there who can't speak the language here in America. Its frustrating!!

Because this is a diverse country which I think is one of the charms of living in the United States. Our country doesn't have an official language so technically, they can speak whatever they want. It just so happens most of the country speaks English.
And most employees can speak at least limited English, although it may be harder to understand. Rather than getting upset about it, take it as an opportunity to help their conversational skills.

It can be frustrating, especially if you are in a hurry, but being helpful to our newcomers will promote understanding and peace among the many races and cultures here in our country.
I believe that the most serious immigrants try to learn English, so instead of being harsh or critical, thus making them more self conscious, try to boost their spirits a little and their English may improve by the next time you are in the store.
On the other hand, if the employee is snotty and chauvinistic about their own language, I guess you could simply choose not to patronize that store any more.

I'm not a huge fan of having to know Spanish to get by at my local grocery store, but I don't really mind that much. I've lived in other countries where for a while in the beginning I was the one who didn't speak the language. It's not easy by any means, so I tend to have some sympathy. And I'm a big fan of people traveling, moving, and experiences different cultures, so if that means I have to learn to ask for milk in Spanish, I'll deal with it.

This is a country built on immigration. Saying that I believe that America should have a strict policy that LEGAL immigrants have to learn english before they can finalize their immigration status. Its not fair to those of us that have lived here all our lives to have to struggle ordering food at McDonalds or when purchasing merchandise at any store because the clerk can't speak english. I am glad that they work but if they can't speak the language we can't get helped properly. Also, I know of cities that don't have bilingual dispatchers in there emergency dispatch centers. You can't get pissed off when you don't get help because dispatchers don't speak YOUR OLD COUNTRIES language.

I get really ticked off when I call Tech support and get a heavily accented person who you can't understand.
I try not to put up with it when I have an option.. Usually, I hang up and redial and hopefully get someone who can speak English. And repeat as needed until I get someone.
In the store, I'd try to find an American and if that doesn't work, go to another store.

ok - i would be incredibly honest with you.... It does not make me indignant whilst people who're Hispanic talk in Spanish. What does make me indignant is whilst people who come to this united states of america do not learn a minimum of adequate English to be waiting to shelter corporation. u . s . is a rustic of immigrants. i'm a hundred% Irish born to households that are fourth technology Irish. the issue is that one and all immigrants previously 1990 or so have been envisioned to income adequate English to talk. Italians, Germans, Indian, jap, chinese language, et.al.... all immigrants found out English. To me, that's disrespectful for any immigrant inhabitants to anticipate u . s . to alter their standards to permit a language different than English. If I moved to Mexico, i could ought to learn Spanish, good? So why would desire to you be any distinctive. I truthfully have super appreciate to your custom, yet you apart from would ought to appreciate ours. that's a 2 way highway -

If you live in america you learn english, if you live in Italy you should learn Italian, France, French, ect. I think it should be a law. immigration is great, but if you plan to LIVE in another country, you learn the langue. Its just comon sense. Vacationing is completley different then moving somewhere.

Two words: First Amendment. Any attempt to curb speaking non-English languages where it does no damage would be grossly unconstitutional. Not to mention outright mean.
