I think it must be because its not very common to see a transexual so when they do they are frightened and dont understand. I think a lot of the time they (especially men)feel it is a threat to their own sexuality as well, like the transexual is going to come after them.

Human beings started out as living in small tribes or family groups. Anybody from outside that tribe would be considered different and scary. Humans have not developed greatly in the last 3 million years in this respect; we still consider people different to ourselves to represent a threat.

This is the base cause of racism, and social stratification. We still feel most comfortable with people most like ourselves; similar colour; similar professions; similar education; similar income; similar religion; similar sexual orientation.

On top of this, people who have not been involved in trans-gender issues will find it difficult to comprehend why anybody would feel the need to change their sex.

As with all such issues, the way to break down barriers is honest and frank interchange of information and communication.

I don't think its a dislike, I just think people find them a little odd....I used to live next door to one, who used to be a bloke and was like halfway to bein a woman, name was "Jackie" and it was just really hard, cos he still has a beard, dresses like a bloke, but when he had the op my other half came home to find him in the hallway (It was a block of flats) stark naked saying "look what I've got"
It freaked him out!

I think there's a bit of fear, but mostly I think it's because we challenge some pretty basic assumptions about gender, identity and biology and that makes some people uncomfortable, especially in a society that still has some pretty strong ideas about what is acceptable gender behaviour.

They are different than what people are used to and people are not very accepting of change. People also like to categorize things and they can't so they can't understand. They can't deal with it so they choose not to like it.

not everyone does. I have dated two of them. the first one didn't work out, the second one had to move to the west coast.

The second one was loads of fun to be with. We liked the same things like flea markets, computers, hobbies, and other interests like bdsm, spankings....
