My aunt is starting her own business. She is in her 50s. Through her business, she will travel to homes of the elderly and help them with misc. tasks around the house, giving them medicine, making meals, etc... I think she said she will also babysit for younger couples trying to make ends meet....

I am trying to think of a gift to give her, in relation to her new job! It needs to be somewhat inexpensive because I am a poor college student! :)

THANKS!!

1. $20 set of business cards that you design.
2. A great nursing bag. Doesn't have to be leather, just practical and very business-like. $25-50.
3. A "passenger seat" car desk/organizer such as at The Container store. $25
4. A map-light for her car. $15
5. An announcement, not just an ad, in the local newspaper of the launch of her new business. $50

I know people who do that business of assisting the elderly with meals make a lot of casseroles, since they're easy to put in the fridge and reheat. A good cookbook of casseroles would be a great gift. Below is a link to Amazon.com for a listing of casserole cookbooks... there's a ton.

You know I know that some people absolutely hate gift certificates, but I love them. Along with starting a business, is a lot of start up costs.....supplies, etc. A gift certificate to Staples is an unusual idea....if she's running a business, she is going to need supplies, organizers, etc. And I love shopping there!

you could go to the office supply store and pick up some inexpensive business cards, and print her up some business cards on your computer...
or, how about a nice blouse so she feels professional as she meets with people
or if she will be traveling a-lot and spending lots of time in her car, how about a nice car seat cover
or how about a nice business card holder ( i have found really beautiful ones at Claire's and Icing for under $10)

Best Wishes for your auntie. I remember when I started out, my husband gave me a beautiful attache case; to carry business files. A nice gift could also be an organizer/date book, which can be inexpensive and they come in different colours, add a matching pen and prettiest wrapping paper you can afford will make it special. Happy Shopping.

Perhaps a subscription to a journal approprite to the field. Unfortunately some of those are pricey. Some are well subsidized by advertising.

A Day-Planner or calendar such as in doctor's offices for times, names, addresses, and phone numbers.

Perhaps a city map book as well.

What about a cook book of simple recipes she can use to cook at her work? Perhaps recipes you or your student friends use - or your mom, or neighbours?

What about a daytimer - she'll need that badly to keep track of her appointments.

She would need some courage to start a business at that age. Courage costs hours, but not dollars. (I am an 11-year-old prodigy using my grandmother's user name temporarily, and some people say I am precocious).
