All women over 18 and all women who are sexually active, even if under 18, should have an annual pap and pelvic exam done--that means every year! The pap smear tests for cancerous cells, but it, along with the pelvic exam, can also provide the doctor with valuable information to help keep you healthy.
Only pregnancy or a sexually transmitted disease are proof-positive that a girl is not a virgin (and even then it is remotely possible that the pregnancy is a "splash pregnancy"--same with an STD, you can get an STD from someone's mouth or finger).
The traditional "sign" that a girl is a virgin is an unbroken hymen, a thin piece of skin at the vaginal opening. However, a hymen can break from a number of other things like doing splits, horseback riding, bikeriding, tampon usage, etc. None of these things make a girl "not a virgin". The only thing that makes a girl not a virgin is sexual intercourse--and as I mentioned above, only a pregnancy or STD are certain ways to know that a penis has been in the general vicinity of the vagina, much less in it.
NO and that means NO ethical doctor will discuss with a girl's parents whether or not she is a virgin without her permission unless her life is in danger and she is unable to give consent (for example, if she's in the emergency room having a miscarriage and is unconsious the doctor kinda has to tell her parents).
I have four teenage boys and the doctor always kicks me out of the room when she wants to talk about sex with them, even though we have an open relationship and I know which of them is having sex or not because it is openly discussed.
Of course, if I had a girl who was say... 11 years old and her doctor knew she wasn't a virgin I would consider suing for malpractice if the doctor didn't tell me! There are always limits...

No, the doctor can't tell your parents ANYTHING about the exam or what he/she learns from it without your permission. Doctor/patient confidentiality has NOTHING to do with age. As long as you're old enough to be in the room alone (which is usually considered over 13) you are in charge of your own medical care.
Also, there's nothing to worry about. Not even the doctor can really tell you're not a virgin! The common way is to say "Oh, her hymen's broken, she must not be a virgin."
But doctors now know that some women are born without hymens! That doesn't mean she's not a virgin. Your hymen could also break from everyday things, like inserting a tampon or riding a horse. What if you masturbate? That might break your hymen, too. The nurse will ask about your sexual history, but when you answer (be honest, since it's for your care!) just say "Please write on my chart that I do NOT want my parents to know anything about my sexual history. Thanks." And when the doctor comes in, tell him/her too.
So the doctor won't be able to tell a thing, and even if he/she did, your parents won't know.
Oh, and another thing, don't have sex for the two days before your exam. It can throw off the results of the pap smear.

1) HIPAA laws state that anyone over the age of 12 has the right to privacy regarding his or her own medical records. The physician and his/her office are legally responsible to keep these records confidential. Unless you fill out the correct paper work stating that you give the physician authorization to release information (and many times you need to specify WHAT information you wish to be released) to a SPECIFIC party, the physician, it's office and anyone affiliated with the office (hospital, clinic, etc) can and WILL be heftily fined. There is also the distinct possibility of a lenghty jail term for violations of this law as well.
2) However, if you are covered under your parents insurance, and are expecting to get a pap smear, pregnancy test, or STD testing, your physician will NOT share this information with your parents, but it WILL show up on their insurance statements. Possibly itemized, possibly not. The tests/visit will be shown on the statement, but the results never will.
3) It is not possible to definitively determine if a woman is a virgin or not with a pap smear, or any other pelvic examination. As others have stated, the hymen can be non-existant or break during normal activities such as: bike riding, sports, accidents, etc.

First of all it is a PAP SMEAR. And a doctor wouldn't know if the girl was a virgin or not unless SHE told him, or if she were pregnant. And whether the doctor tells a girl's parents or not depends on the state the girl lives in, because now that is all wrapped up in the "disclosure" laws that many states have passed. So IF the girl is a minor it might be a state LAW that the doctor tell her parents she is not a virgin IF he is aware, a PAP SMEAR will not indicate whether she is or not.

I went to a gynecologist when I was 16, and they did a pelvic exam and asked me questions, like whether or not I was sexually active. The doctor told me that he could not tell my mother unless I gave my consent. She wanted to be in the room for the questioning prior to the exam, and he made her leave. I think that is so doctors are able to get the corrcet information about young girls without them worrying about their parents finding out and being upset. My mom would have flipped, and I am glad for pateint confidentiality!!!!

Its called a pap smear and assuming your not 18 or over there is no reason for you to get one unless you are sexually active. any girl under the age of 18 does not need to see a gynocologist unless you have past history in your family.

No way. Unless your parents are with you when youre going to do pap smear with your parents. If your mother is too curious, perhaps she'll ask your doctor, but absolutely not infront of you.
If you're not a virgin, then your mother approch might you, what you will do?
Are you going to sue your DOCTOR by informing your mother that you are not a virgin?

women over 35 normally get a pap smear done to check for cancer and things. What is it that you want to know? How on earth would the doctor know if you're a virgin or not? If it's the hymen rupturing, you're worried about, your hymen could rupture if you just play basket ball or something....i'm not quite sure what you mean though..

Sorry, I have not have been given any adventure like this yet hubby and that i noted this in case one in all our young babies has the comparable catch 22 situation. i could prefer to think of they could come suitable out and let us know in the present day and we could help them a hundred%. What are you dad and mom like? Are they strict or laid lower back? Are they accepting and tolerant? it is not undemanding for them to settle for in the beginning up yet whilst they're tolerant human beings they'll study to stay with it. besides, they could already suspect in the event that they observed you fidgeting with dolls and dressing in females outfits as a newborn..... sturdy success.
