yea it's sad that our society pressures women to be so thin that the only way they can be beautiful is to not eat... I wish men would see past the outside...

Sadly - this news does not shock me to the core. I don't know one single woman who has never been 'on a diet' - in an effort to produce 'the perfect body'. And this impossible goal is reinforced by the photos we see in magazines, the super celebrities we see strutting on the red carpets and the fashion models parading down catwalks. It is all an illusion. Photos in magazines are cosmetically altered and modified - legs made to look longer - skin flaws airbrushed away etc. etc. etc. What we are aspiring to is unattainable in reality. Those young celebs on the red carpet have whole teams of people to tape their boobs, suck their guts in, make up their faces, design their clothes, and style their hair. Real women do not have the time or the money to accomodate that kind of pampering. Fashion models starve themselves to the point where many of them do not look like women any more. Could this be because so many of the famous men designing clothes for women - are gay? Are they designing for real women? No!!! Women are afraid to develop curves, embrace their womanliness because they are brainwashed into believing that men do not want this. It's so sad. The death of this young woman is tragic. I do know however that in some countries - models are not allowed to work unless they have a healthy body with the recommended percentage of fat under their skin. They still look skinny to me - but at least it's a step in the right direction. I say - down with stick insects!!!!!!

This is actually a really common issue. Most models won't eat for a week before any big fashion event to shed any extra pounds their carrying. I like the new trend in Australia at the moment tho. Many Australia designers are opting to have real models, they are using women picked of the street, ranging from sizes 8 to 14 and all around the average women's height. I think its a great step forward and hope that next season many other designers might take the same steps to help promote a better image of what a real woman is.

Very sad but not surprising. When the focus on the female body is thin is in. People in Hollywood and advertisers make it seem nasty to have weight on a person. I know some heavy people who are cleaner than some thin people. Men also put pressure on women with outrageous expectations of how a female should look. A friend and her mate recently had a baby. He told her that if she kept much of the weight on her it was over. To me he loves her body not her. I know a healthy body is good but as you see from this there are health risks associated with being too thin.

Wow, that's sad. 22 years old. Not very pretty anymore. It's hard to make someone eat, especially if they're an adult. I feel bad for her family and loved ones.
