No they can't make you do anything. But, they can express their point of view well enough, that you can gain an understanding of it. Maybe you can relate to what they say, or change your position in order to see their point of view. I would hope that people are not weak minded enough to buy what the con (wo)men are selling.

Yes.
They want you to buy their products, but they make you believe that you are buying the image that comes with the product.
