For a trip around Jan-Mar. Staying around 5 days. Can be package (hotel + airfare). No tour needed. Would transfer by boat/train be cheaper/feasible?

You could sign up with any free and easy tours at any tour agency, and the price is about the same too.
But if you book for budget airline like Jetstar, you can save a lot for airfare, but you will have to look for a hotel on your own.
So it really depends if you wanna look for everything yourself.
Please don't even consider boat or train as doing it would be a waste of precious time.
