Some people do it strictly for health reasons.

There are those who believe that a vegan diet (vegetarian with no dairy, eggts, or other animal products)where everything is fresh and raw is the most healthy diet of all for humans. They might be right. Here's some links for you:

You should read Sergei's testimony on the second link. He overcame type 1 diabetes with raw vegan diet.

well, because we care about animals.

i have been criticized by some people for becoming vegetarian. people just say that it's crazy lol. however, we're just trying to do our little part in helping the animals.

others do it for health.. like vegetarians are much less likely to be obese, or get cancer.

others surprisingly do it for a dare or lent or something and end up just not craving meat anymore. :)

but i think it's a good thing to be. We may not be helping all the animals, but we still make a difference.

That's a really broad question, but here is my answer.
I became a vegetarian when I was about 14 because something in me couldn't cope with the 'killing animals' thing.

I still can't really deal with that (at 28, 14 yrs vege), but now I am vegetarian really out of habit.

ethics.. health issues... to lose weight... to stop gerd... to increase the good cholesterol... triglycerides.. to have a healthy lifestyle..

it depends.. for me it was health and my gerd. i got sick of being sick and nearly died because of my malignant hypertension... i have inheritedly high cholesterol and a problem with triglycerides... i also don't feel very well after eating animal proteins... like i have some allergy to it now. a shame.. though i love to cook and bbq meat... i work real hard to just enjoy it outside my body....

because if i eat it.. i get real sick...

so i stick with fresh fruits and veggies...

most of the time.. other than that i eat soy that pretends to be animal.. which is ok now because i got used to the flavor.

:D

i know some vegetarians and vegans who are obsessed with animal cruelty... some of them try to get me caught up in it.. but that's not who i am.

some do it to lose weight.. now watch out there are chunky vegetarians out there.. watch those calories.

then i know some who.. just are and have no real reason...

one i know though is a veggie head because their teeth always hurt when they ate meat so they stopped... and have not ate meat since.

just it's so vast a query.. so many reasons.. so many applications to the effort of why one is a vegetarian and of course there's many different kinds of vegetarians also as you know.

then there's the vegans.. they are really strict. i should become one myself but i'm too lazy and dumb but i'm sure it would greatly improve my health.
vegans are very crucial with the treatment of animals by the way.

Actually vegetarian is natural for humans, so the question should be why do some eat meat.

Sometimes through a conviction that it is wrong to raise animals just to kill them, sometimes for health concerns, sometimes for religious reasons. They are all valid reasons for becoming a vegetarian. And one other reason, not widely mentioned, is that well prepared, fresh vegetables just plain old taste good!

health reasons and a love for animals are the most common ones I hear...

I became a vegetarian because of the cruelty animals go through in the meat industry.

man is a meat eater. he is a natural killer. vegetarians will truly be in trouble if they discover that plants are thinking, feeling creatures. Oh, and they have proved that they know someone who treats them nice and one who doesn't, they grow better with lighter music.
look out worms, maggots, ants, etc. your turn is next
