The Grinch acted out of jealousy for the happiness of others which he sought to destroy. His heart was touched when he saw that their happiness did not depend on material things.

Scrooge acted out of greed and miserly ways. He did not try to destroy others, but did not care to make them happy at his expense. His heart was changed by fear and pain of death and hellish suffering, because of his own desires; it was by negative consequences, not because of positive ones.

These are not the same story.
The only similarity is that they both involve the setting and spirit of Christmas, and the main characters both had a change of heart and discovered the joy of giving and living life.

One difference is that Scrooge hates Christmas, but he is content to hate it and let everyone else know how much he hates it and refuse to be a part of it. Meanwhile, the Grinch won't rest until he has ruined it for everybody.

Another difference is that Scrooge recognizes the folly of his ways by seeing how his life has affected others. The Grinch, on the other hand, changes after seeing that his actions HAVEN'T changed anybody.

Christmas story was written first.... back in the 1800s and Dr seuss grinch back in like 1964..... same theme ,,,,, But many years apart. Dr. seuss was more and likely a fan of the story.. and put his own spin on the christmas carol

They were written by different people in dramatically different times.
One is an elderly miser who refuses to celebrate Christmas or show any kindness.
The other is about a fuzzy green hermit who is jealous of others and physically tries to take away what they have to make himself feel better.
One is helped by a procession of ghosts to see the error of his ways.
The other hears singing after he's robbed them of what he believes makes them happy and realizes that he didn't understand at all. And his heart grows 3 sizes that day.

"Grinch" is more of a cartoonish fairy tale for kids. "Carol" is more of a classical style and is aimed at a more mature audience.

And they're two completely different stories.
