Wow.... you really have a strong opinion on this. I too am a smoker, and I don't plan to quit anytime soon neither, but the thing is I made the choice to pollute my body with chemicals, why should I feel I have the right to inflict it on anyone else? It is a public place and everyone has the right to be there. We as smokers made the choice and we shouldn't feel that everyone enjoys that smoke as much as we do. It doesn't take very long to have a smoke, so just step outside for a few. Most bars here have an outdoor smoking area.

I'm a non-smoker. I don't think I'm better than smokers, but I DO think it's my right to not have other people's addictions and unhealthy lifestyles pushed on me. Fat people harm themselves with their unhealthy lifestyle, but they don't harm me with it. Smokers on the other hand harm themselves AND others by smoking around them. What gives you the right to poison the air we all need to breathe with dangerous chemicals? If YOU want to commit slow suicide that's fine, but don't drag me down with you.
There are several reasons why people might choose to go to a bar. Not everyone is there to drink till they pass out. Some people are there to have a good time with friends (some of which may not even be drinking alcohol at all). Some people just want a drink or two. Some people are there to get drunk. All those people can choose what and how much they drink, but if there is as much as one person smoking in there, they are forcing their smoke down the lungs of everyone else in the room! What makes more sense, a person stepping outside for a smoke or everyone else leaving the place when someone feels like smoking? Which is worse, a small inconvenience for smokers or a major health risk for everyone around?
If the "if you don't like smoke, then stay away from _____" attitude was dominant then we'd still have smoking in banks, shops, offices, airplanes, busses and pretty much wherever people might feel like smoking. It's about time people stopped getting away with slowly killing everyone around them. Thumbs up for smoking bans in public places, INCLUDING bars.

Its not about being better than anyone its about the health of everyone. You are inconveniancing everyone else than you the smoker can go outside. Just because its a bar doesnt mean its a requirement to smoke there...and I think your confused because why would you even bring up the fact that you dont see fat people smoking? And if you have to smoke every 5 minutes then you have a problem.

First off all, the general public should be allowed to go to a bar without worrying about second hand smoke and lung cancer later on in life. Yes, there should be places for smokers, since it is a legal thing to do, but don't make US (non-smokers) feel bad and don't degrade us just because we don't want to ingest anything harmful into our body.
Before you bash people, learn how to use correct spelling and grammar.

Hi, I don't know where you live but I'm in Australia and as of July this year us smokers have been baned from smoking any where in inclosed areas! also near schools, parks and shopping centres. However at pubs and bars we have been given little designated smoking areas. Let me tell you that you are right and all the non smoking are always in there. Why because people who smoke are having heaps more fun with their life, sure we may get cancer but millions of non smokers will too.We may get hit by a bus as well but that doesn't make everyone stay home!! Leave us alone you non smoking people because as far as I'm concerned yes our smoke may harm you, but your car may just as well harm me so bugger of. Whats next all the alcoholics banding together and banning alcohol in bars and fatties banning junk food....

I think its fine if people want to smoke - it's their choice as long as they know what bad things every cigarrette is doing to them. I just don't like them smoking around me, and the way things are going, I think we'll be throwing you guys out of bars shortly, if not all public places.

Of course the non-smokers were created better, we're not addicted to nicotine, smell better, don't have bad breath, don't stink up the clothes and the house, don't endanger other people's life by making them secondary smoker, also don't litter the butts everywhere, don't have yellow nails, don't have bad skin, most importantly, the money can be used for charity and good will, instead of killing yourself and dragging others with you.

Well, in NYC, you're not allowed to smoke in bars anymore, or any closed areas. Either way, I don't frequent bars.
Why should you be able to smoke in a bar anyway? It's great if you want an early grave, just don't drag everyone else down with you.
You don't realize how many people are murdered by you careless people. You're so selfish.

You seem pretty angry about this, let it go. I use to smoke for 15 years, never smoked in my house because it stinks..not everyone wants to stink..quit and then you will see how bad it smells. The second hand smoke is deadly also.

*** ya, it wouldn't hurt to ban them once in awhile. truth be told i think there should be non-smoking bars and smoking bars. u know good and well the non-smokers would be in our bars all the time then cause theirs wouldn't be any fun. and even the other non-smokers would get annoyed listening to the whiners cause u know good and well they'd just find somethin else to b*tch about.
by the way, i won't smoke in my house either...stale smoke does stink. then again i wasn't plannin on spendin nite and day at the bar.
