Film is DEVELOPED using acids and cleaners.

The Silver (AgNO3, "silver nitrate") is as poison that is part of the film itself before exposure and processing. The development of the film fixes and locks the silver as well as makes it fixed so that it doesn't continue to react when exposed to sunlight.
