To be a CSI. Come on, the tv shows have them finding the tinest of evidence anywhere. They put something in trace to find out what it is and come out with a horribly long name like tripdopendophenxodieddiunedyoxihippofripdycrodine...And immediate know what it is..."oh, that's the secret ingredient to tootsie rolls."

I wonder how accurate those shows are and if the CSI's in real life area really the smart when it comes to the smallest of details and insignifigant facts.

It's so true! It always makes me laugh. That, and how they always say that EVERYTHING is "just like fingerprints."

"Tiger stripes are just like fingerprints - every tiger has a different pattern."
"Garbage bag seams are just like fingerprints."
"Cocoa Puffs are just like fingerprints."

It cracks me up! I love that show though.

Are you saying that some things on that show aren't portrayed in a realistic manner? Now listen here, I've seen CSI's in real life spot a single stubble from a man's 5 o' clock shadow against a black background from across the room, so don't you tell me those guys on TV don't have magnifying eyes that can zoom in 100x and spot tiny (and more importantly, relevant) objects without so much as bending over. There's just no truth in what you're saying (sarcasm off).

Its television, its not real. Alot of the aspects of what they do
are real, but everything is a story with a plot, suspense and
then a solved ending, that is what good writers get paid alot
of money for. In real life some things they do in 10 seconds
on the show might take all week in reallity. Like for instance
running a fingerprint in the state of nevada would require
hours of time on show 5 seconds exact match. Baloney ! There
are thousands of unsolved homicides which are called cold case
files. That's another show.

I happen to be in a position to know for certain that William Petersen, who plays Gil Grissom AND is the main producer of CSI is a perfectionist for real life details. Real CSI's are not police, they are highly trained scientists, and don't forget all the gadgets and ultra modern equipment shown on the show does exist in real life.

Accuracy of show = 100%, Really. Everything they do is 100% realistic and obtainable. The world of forensics is amazing and there are so many things possible.

I work for a law enforcement agency in Canada. And I must say that we use the same methods of evidence collection that they use. One thing that is different is that all CSI's do is collect the evidence. It is up to the lab to do the analysis. Each peice of evidence is sent to the lab that specializes in that piece of evidence.

No one knows everything. CSI's are professionals at collecting the evidence - and that's it.

Laboratory personell are professionals in analyzing certain peices of evidence - and thats it.

One lab guy that is a professional at everything - not realistic. Take a bullet to an entomologist and he won't have a clue what to do with it.

Hope that helps clear things up

And they always solve the case in 43 minutes, and the CSI guys always get to make the bust.

Riiiight...

It's TV. That's Entertainment, bay-bee. It ain't real. Never has been, never will be.

Well, if you work in forensics, and you do it all the time, I'm sure you would get familiar with certain subjects other people don't know.

It would be worse if these people do this for a living and NOT know anything about their job.

In real life the clues and answers don't come nearly that fast

Thats a good question

No, it's not accurate, it's entertainment.

Real forensic medicine is ghastly and meticulous and mostly laboratory work.
