You should call their support number. Depending on the IPOD you have - it may be cheaper to buy a new one rather than shipping and having it fixed. Find out before you put out money to fix it.

OK its toast so you can't make it any worse.
Rinse the ipod off under running water until all the coke is gone. Now go to the store and get a gallon of distilled water. Put the ipod in a container (like a glass) so it's vertical, pour enough DW to cover it. (if it floats weight it down) Leave it for about 10 min. Now check to see if the water if discolored or smells like coke. If so, remove it from the water, gently shake out as much water as you can and repeat the soak. Do this until no more coke comes out. Shake out the water and let it dry vertically in a warm 90-100F place for a few days. Try charging it and cross your fingers.

You see everything in a ipod is sealed against moisture except the switches. And the coke goo is in them. The DW should dissolve the goo and leave no residue. The only problem is coke has phosphoric acid in it which may corrode the contacts. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Put it in the dishwasher. No joke. Once it is washed pull it out and let it dry on a towel for a minimum of 24 hours.
The problem you are having is from the sugar in the Diet Coke, when it dries it crystallizes forming continuity bridges allowing the short circuit.

Sorry, but your pod is fried. If you have an Apple store in the area, go there. If not, call Apple's 800 support number. At worst, go and buy a new ipod...

u know wut, a friend got his ipod washed in the washing machine. and died. he filled in the online form say the ipod is completely died. then they replaced one for him. maybe you should just wash it to take off the coke. and say it's died with no reason. just a suggestion. hehe . but the story's true. otherwise they will tell u it takes 100 to repair
