Babies should spend at least a little bit of time on their tummies every day from day one. For the first few weeks it only needs to be 5-10 mins. (it can be longer if baby is comfortable and happy on his/her tummy) and then gradually increase the amount of time as he/she gets older. Try laying down on your tummy with your baby and encourage them to lift their head to look at you. When your baby gets a little older you can put brightly colored toys down on the floor and they will move their head around to look at the toys and grab at them.

Tummy time can start right away. In fact doctors are concerned with the fact that so many parents avoid tummy time entirely due to the concerns about SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). They state that babies aren't using muscles that they normally would since this position is avoided. The big BUT here is that babies should NEVER be placed on their back to sleep. Tummy time is only for awake and watched periods. Enjoy your baby! It goes by so fast.

As soon as possible. Tummy time is very good for them even as soon as a week old. Just check on the amount of time.

It's okay to start right away, just supervise it. My baby is now five months old and I have a nice baby comforter on the living room floor with bright colored toys around her. I started a lot sooner than that but I always did it this way.

Hello,
I would start tummy time at 2 or 3 months of age.
With my twins, they were preemies, so I did not start their tummy time until they were 3 months old. And, I would not have them on their tummies everyday.
Hope this helps you.................. :-)

The day of Birth the more postitions your child is in the more comfortable they will be. Both of my sons were tummy sleeper(only way the would and both had very bad spit up issues felt it was worth the odds as opposed to chocking on vomit)

you can start "tummy time" on top of your tummy when they are newborns....but alone on the floor, when they are able to lift thier head.

I started fairly soon. As soon as the baby is able to life their head I would think is fine although I think I may have started sooner.

My son slept on his stomach from day one. He was in the NICU for 1 week after he was born, and would only sleep on his stomach. I just continued it when I brought him home. He slept in a bassinet next to my bed.
