BOOK is the subject. IS is the verb. THIS is an adjective. WHY is an adverb. UNDER MY DESK is a prepositional phrase.

understood (YOU) is the subject. GO is the verb. TO THE BACK and OF THE LINE are prepositional phrases.

It is book in the first sentence and line in the second.

book for the first one, the second one is tricky because it's an imperative sentence (command) and the subject isn't written. The unwritten subject is "You"
