If the baby food is too thick or has chunks in it causing it to choke. Also, feeding solid foods too early will cause an excessive amount of gas and or constipation leading to being colicy. Also, babies that young may end up with obesidy when the baby gets older. I would definatly say formula or breast milk. and besides, at that age, the food can not be digested properly so I would say yes it will die because if the food can not be digested properly then the baby will be so bound up that the bowls may rupture.

What is her reasoning for giving the baby all this food so early ? It is not necessary or recommended at all. It has been linked to cause allergies and digestive issues. The baby is only 5 weeks, all the baby needs is breast milk right now.

You need to knock some sense into her head. At 5 weeks, the only thing a baby should be having is breastmilk or formula. Giving a child under the age of 5 months any type of solid food is a major risk. It can cause choking, allergic reactions, and many other bad things.

My mother-in-law fed my child cereal WAY TOO EARLY behind my back, and he has horrible food allergies. Is it a coincidence? I wouldn't take a chance! You should see how hard it is to deal with a child who is allergic to EVERYTHING. Some people think they know it all and will not listen to their physician. No physician would agree with feeding a baby solid food that early.

Giving solid foods too early can cause allergies, diabetes and obesity. The baby can't digest them that early. The AAP suggests waiting until around 6 mos.

theres really nothing you can do but give her info about why it is not recommended to feed certain foods to infants. This is her child, and nobody can make her do anything.
