Well, I don't know much about him, or where you live. I can only answer from my experience.
I am a romantic, so a place that has nice atmosphere, and so that I can concentrate on the date, so nothing noisy, or no place with a lot of kids. That being said, a nice steak house like Ruth's Chris. If you have a Benihana, that would be good too. My significant others always took me to Carrabba's Italian Grill because I love it, and it has a nice atmosphere. I also love Buca Di Beppo.

Not sure where you are located. But a nice steakhouse is Ruth Chris, I know there are several locations around the US. Hopefully there is on new you.

And finally one of my favorites: Fogo de Chao - its a Brazilian Churrascaria - steakhouse with several locations in the US.
