How are the two different?

I took AP US History and scored a 4 ;-). I thought it was a good college prep class but its not anywhere equivalent to a regular college history class despite the materials and themes emphasized.

Biology seems like alot more application than memorization

I'm planning to go into the Biochemistry field, so that's 5 years cut down to 4 (People do that so they won't get overwhelmed, also to keep a high GPA to please grad admissions)

AP covers mostly High school biology and a little but not all first year College biology.

College bio goes in a little more depth in the first year then the last year of AP does.

I'm a bio major in college right now and i took AP bio in high school as well...I took Bio 1 again in college instead of skipping it with AP test scores.

First of all one class won't have a significant effect on when you graduate...especially with a major like the one you're shooting for.
Second of all i took it again to build an even stronger base of the subject matter because you really do need to know everything from the course for the higher level biology courses. Its a pathetically easy A in college, especially if you take AP in high school first...if you transfer the credit from the AP test you won't receive a grade for the class...you want all the easy A's you can get there chief

College biology is desiged to prepare you for organic chemistry and biochemistry. You will also have more time to discuss relevant research issues, instead of adhering to AP curriculum. Taking (and passing with a 4 or 5) the AP test will save you a lot of grief in college, though.

When I took AP Bio, what ended up happening was that the year of AP bio i took only counted for one semester of a year long intro to bio sequence. So it is the same as your first bio course, just stretched over a longer period of time. The exact same material was covered.

the reading material IS probably the same, however, I would fully expect the quality of the labs offered at a university will be more detailed and comprehensive.

However, depending on your major - getting basic biology overwith while still in high school would be a smart move- its cheaper and counts towards your diploma as well as college credits...if you area a science major, you will likely have several more opportunities for labs.

College biology is supposed to be deeper into the subject.

Quite a assumption, Mr. Curious. Stick to history.

I teach AP U.S. History and it is the same as freshman university-level U.S. History. I would assume biology is the same.
