I know its a stupid question but its going to be on the biology exam and i really don't get it =(.

The cow eats the grass. It breaks down the grass into usable amino acids and then it forms new proteins and the likening that the cow can use.

So simply, its all the same matter, just in a diffrent form.

Not only does the cow eat grass, but after it is digested what is left comes out as waste. The waste goes on the ground and is gradually absorbed into the soil, thus becoming fertilizer for new grass and the cycle starts all over again. Don't feel dumb, I was a bit confused by the question too, until I thought about it a bit.
