One significant way of improving your self image may be to improve the way you interact with others. Smiling and laughing more, helping others, and giving compliments can help. It is difficult to feel negative when you are sincerely smiling. We all know some people with a great smile. Recalling them smiling often gives a happy feeling. Think about your favorite smiling people. Whether you know them personally or see them on television or wherever, the relation makes no difference. Just thinking about them smiling is likely to give you some pleasure and may entice you to smile more.
You may improve your appearance or your perception of your appearance using a variety of approaches including clothes, hair style, makeup, dieting, exercise, medical procedures, or in other ways. There are certainly many choices today on all of these options. If you have difficulty with achieving these types of improvements, you may need to get an opinion or advice from someone else. Input from family or friends can be helpful. Also, people who offer products or services which enhance personal appearance are usually happy to give their input on what will work for you. If you don't care for the opinion of one, try others. Just remember that you decide what you like. Some may consider improving personal appearance as vanity, but it is very normal and if it makes you feel better about yourself, then it is worthwhile. The importance of this factor on your happiness is entirely up to you.
So, what can you do to improve your self image? Consider the following thoughts on perception. Actually this list can apply to more than improving your self image. It can apply to anything you want to achieve.

Ask what about yourself do you like and dislike.

Think about what you would like to improve.

You totally control what you think of yourself.

I think Ashley that this is a question that many people ask themselves. There is no easy answer to it either. Exercise and diet may change the physical appearance but that may not address what you feel about yourself. The real issue is how can you get more comfortable with yourself so that the physical does not affect your perception of who you really are. I don't know your age but physical appearance is perceived to be very important as you go from adolescence into young adulthood. But as you mature, it becomes less important. the real issue is the confidence you have in yourself and how you value yourself as an individual. Just by asking this question you seem to be a person with a good heart and over time you will find that that is more valued by others than how you look. Ask your self at times what is good about yourself and what you like about Ashley. No one and nothing external to yourself can give you what you seek-- acceptance and self esteem. It is hard to achieve but it is a path that you must find for yourself. Its a hard journey and has many side roads but always keep an eye on the right path - who you are and what is good about you, Only then will others see the true beauty in you.

Even if you do this it is just a temporary fix. We have to get off the bodily platform to attain real happiness. We are not these bodies, minds, senses, we are spirit soul. If one realizes ones real identity they can become eternally happy full of bliss and knowledge. We have to remove the veils of illusion over our consciousness. Forget self-image. Try self-esteem. Self-esteem is based on your actions, not on appearances.

easier than any of that! Just quit worrying about what others think. All that matters in the end, is what you think.
