For example, do you think college's would offer a major that you wouldn't be able to find a job in?

Colleges offer many majors without guarantee of jobs. Every major does have people working in them, and most colleges also offer job counseling / placement but the fact remains that there are degrees that are more useful to society at times than others. That ebbs and flows according to where society is at the time. For example, right now there is a shortage of nurses so going to nursing school is a very lucrative degree and there are all kinds of benefits and perks for getting in. 20 years ago, that wasn't the case - there was a glut of nurses.

Also, computer programming is not as big as it was in the 90s.

they should let the students know thru advisors about what jobs they may end up doing after their degree has been completed. Then it is to the student who has to decide whether he/she wants to pursue the major he is interested in
