Isn't that something you should know, President Bush?

Democracy and Democratic are two very different things, though they sound very much alike. Democracy is a government ruled by the people of that state, region, or community. Being Democratic is a certain belief in your government and the way it should be.
Thus, America is not trying to make Iraq Democratic, but more so a Democracy so there are no more dictators (or severe leaders who share no power with others) such as Osoma Bin Laden. I hope this helps!

The Bush administration doesn't give a tinker's damn whether Iraq will become a democracy, a republic, or a dictatorship - as long as we control all its OIL.
If that's not the case, WHY is America building the largest embassy in the world on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad? Because we intend to be in that country until we've sucked every drop of Oil out of its sands. -RKO-

A Republic is a a representative Democracy. That is the people elect representatives who go into the political arena and practice the tenets of democratic government. Hopefully they are making decision the majority of their constituents want them to make. A true democracy is practiced only in Switzerland where issues are voted on directly by the people in town meetings. It is a cumbersome, and almost irrational kind of government except in relatively small socially conforming societies like Switzerland.

republic-
a)A political order in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who are entitled to vote for officers and representatives responsible to them.
b)A nation that has such a political order.

democracy-
a)government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
b) a state having such a form of government:

America is an democratic republic, meaning we the people run the government. This is democracy. However, since America is a country of 300 million people, we do this in a simpler form by electing representatives so we don't have to vote on every issue. This is where the issue of republic comes in. Last I checked, we were trying to instill the same system in Iraq. I might be wrong, but we were having them elect officials to office to vote for the people.

republic and democracy are very similar. democracy is having the people's choice and not the leaders, like power to the people. in america we have the right to vote and the right to do alot of things. a republic is basically the same thing so it doesnt matter whether were making it a republic or a democracy. same thing

I think you are nit picking. We are trying to make them into a republic by instituting a form of democracy. And I say trying but not necessarily succeeding.

America is a democracy, that is why we vote. This is a democratic society, the majority wins, unless it infringes upon the so called minoritys rights.
