You mean Australian Aborigines, right? If so, I asked this question in high school, too. The answer was they are "classified" as white.
But anyone with HALF a brain and one working eyeball can see they aren't white! There's soooo much black in them! Although their hair isn't very coarse, every other feature is black, black, black.
Watch the movie "Rabbit Proof Fence." It's about the Aborigines and it's enlightening but heart wrenching.
Gordo is wrongo.
And what are ppl talking about when they say aborigines are black but not "dark black" ? I'm black, I know what black is and I've seen aborigines who are "dark black," whatever that is.
There's no denying they're black - at least from any reasonable ppl.

I don't think he means Canadian Aboriginals.

The word "aboriginal" means "the first" or "earliest known". The word was first used in Italy and Greece to describe people who lived there, natives or old inhabitants, not newcomers, or invaders.
Australia may well be the home of the worlds first people. Stone tools discovered in a quarry near Penrith, New South Wales, in 1971 show that humans lived in Australia at least twelve thousand years before they appeared in Europe.
Yes they are dark.but not as dark as we would think as a deep black person but what we call a lighter dark skin. As most older cultures living outside and in the "rough" elements. A darker skin was a survival tool they adapted when in a very sunny spot. It is like moving someone from a cold climate to somewhere 50 degrees and taking someone from a hot climate there. One will say it is nice and warm the other will say it is freezing. that realy simplyfies it but i think you understand.

aboriginal; existing from the beginning or being the earliest of its type in and area: indigenous.
It depends upon what area you are speaking of. The indigenous peoples of north america are not black, but those of south africa are. The original peoples of the asian countries are not black or white. I hope that answers the question.

I do believe Aboriginal people are Aboriginal. I don't think you are trying to make a race issue out of this question but, as Americans "we" like our catogories. I think it would be in your best interest catogories them as who they are, not by the color of their skin.
Just as a side note I think its really a shame that in America we don't concider ourself Americans, we are either "Whatever"-Americans, forigen, black or white.
just a little something to think about.

In almost every case, aboriginals are the minority which usually means they are darker, but not necessarily black. In Taiwan for example, they are darker skinned than the Chinese immigrants.
