Go for it!! You never know, you might just be that one, and if people really like your music you may even make it to the top 40 chart sometime! A prime example of what youre prbly going thru is that there was this kid a few years ago here in my hometown who just loved music and was really dedicated to it. We all told him that he was just dreaming, but now he's the lead singer of the Killers. So if you want it bad enough, my thoughts are that you probably already have it. Good luck buddy!

Practicing is only about .01% of the equation.
You need to have decent songs, great marketing (which you can do yourself), and the almighty break that everyone moans about.
"Making it" is the hardest work you will ever in your life do, if you truly want to make it.

If this is truly your goal in life, then I would recommend that you study everything you can about the music industry, and talk to as many people as you can that are further along than you are and get their input as to how they got there.
In order to make it to the middle, you need to eat, drink, sleep, breathe, BE music.
If you are not willing to sleep in your car because you are too tired to drive the 20 miles to go home after a show; if you are not willing to drive 2 hours to put up flyers, only to drive 2 hours home that same day, and all that after working a full day; if you are not willing to go without having a girlfriend because she won't accept that you do not have time for her; If you are not willing to spend 2-3 hours a night online researching and shmoozing, and marketing your band; If you are not willing to go for 2 days without eating because the only money you made was put into the gas tank, and the club owner didn't feed you like he promised; If you are not willing to go without sleep, or to sleep in a freezing van with 4 other people for weeks on end; If you are not willing to give up EVERYTHING on the off chance that you might be able to draw 15 people at a club 400 miles from home; if you are not willing to sleep with a 400 pound woman with very little personal hygeine just so you can sleep in a dirty, smelly bed instead of the hard cement floor with flea infested carpets, or the steel bed of a cargo van that is too small to fit everyone... then do yourself a favor and stay at home and become the best cover band you can. There is no shame in that, and I have a friend who makes in excess of $100,000 a year doing so. It is all a matter of what you want, and what you are willing to do in order to get it.

Be the one. All the naysayers are going to still be naysaying in their cubles years from now. They don't matter. The only opinion that does is yours.

Find someone in the business and befriend them. It's your only chance from my way of thinking.
