You are an intelligent being.
You may be artificially intelligent OR a biological being.
If artificially intelligent, you are able to reprogram yourself using software.
If biological, you reprogram your brain and or body using nanobots.

In the course of programming yourself, the mind-altering software asks you,
“Would you like to be capable of romantic love?” AND
“Would you like to desire romantic love?”

You are able to run a version of yourself in a computer simulation that does not affect sentient beings negatively, so there are no ethical problems with running simulations to make up your mind.

There are 3 possibilities:

1. Incapable of romantic love; Not desirous.
2. Capable of romantic love; Desirous.
3. Capable of romantic love; Not Desirous.

If the change was permanent, what do you think you would choose?

If posed this question later:
“Would you like these changes to be permanent or alterable at will depending on the situation?”

In what situations would you choose possibility 1, 2, or 3? AND
In which state do you think you’d spend most of your time?

How is this fun? You are hitting on one of the key aspects of being human, which is also one of the most painful aspects. So basically you are asking whether we would choose to be both emotional and vulnerable if given that choice, and whether or not would accept the option to turn it off at will.

You should know that your numbered options do not appear on the answering page and I only rember that there are three options but not which one goes to what. That being said...

Choosing romantic love, the desire for it, and the inability to switch it off at will is the most human choice to make. Anything less would be easier but also meaningless. We are conscious of our existence so if a person were to choose anything less than the one I've stated then he would also be aware of an incredibly stark and dry existence. It might actually be worse than living with the pains and pleasures of romantic love.

I hate to say it, but I think I'm going to have to choose romantic love, desire for it, with the inability to turn it off.

I don't see romantic love as true love, since it's so demanding. It's a trick of mother nature for the purpose of reproduction. Without it, we would cease to exist. An intelligent being would not choose to feel or arouse romantic love because of all the harm inherent in it. Therefore it may be argued that stupidity is a biological necessity.

I'd give (1) a whirl, but it looks like d o o m. I'm happy with my desire, romantic and all~ I can imagine trying it and becoming a complete sofa sloth. "There's other things to live for!" Right...

(3) looks impossible. Without desire, love has no meaning.
"I'm here because I can!" that's crazy. That's like a woman being in love with a gay guy.

My friend I'm a 44 year old female and I will tell you There is NOTHING in the world like desire!
Romance can be "manufactured", created in a setting mood etc. but desire.......
WOW!!!
there is no comparison to Passion.
