baby box turtles are VERY difficult to raise, I don't think an 11 yr old would be able to care for it, try to find one at least 3-4 yrs
old and eating well on its on

1. It is against a federal law to sell turtles under 4" long. Some stores do anyway by making you sign a paper that claims that you have a legitmate educational, display, or scientific purpose- then they leave out the part about 'other than as a pet'. So, they get you to committ perjury.

2. Baby turtles are a lot harder to care for than older turtles are- ESPECIALLY box turtles. baby boxes tend to have a short life expectancy in captivity.

3. For good info on caring for box turtles or the 4" law, try http://www.austinsturtlepage.com
