Its crazy ....one missed period, one strange cramp and they're at the docs with their legs in stirrups! I'm 23 and have had a pain in my lower right side for a year and a half and haven't talked to anyone about this!

umm, you should go to the doctor about that.

many problems that OB/GYNs catch are problems that are easily fixed IF they are caught early....that's why it's important to go regularly.

I work in a women's surgical unit. I see women ranging in age from 17 to 80's with cervical, ovarian, uterine, and endometrial cancer. It can affect anyone at any age. It is not to be taken lightly. Some of these women's only symptoms are bloating and cramping. I watch these women die of cancer everyday. This is no laughing matter. With our lifestyles, cancer is running rampant and affecting people younger and younger every year. It's not that we enjoy going to GYN but we feel we must to protect ourselves and our families. Ignoring symptoms don't make them go away. I hope you one day realize this. Pain is our bodies way of telling us something is wrong. You should be getting a check-up every year, including a pap smear, regardless of any pain you may be having. I wish you the best.

I don't know any woman who "enjoys" seeing their ob/gyn. As for you - you may not want to play around with your pain anymore...could be an ovarian cyst or something else. A year and a half to wait to see the doc about pain is too long. Nothing to brag about. You need to take care of yourself.

Because medical problems can cause missed periods and "strange" cramps. It is best to see a gyn before things get worse. And, they can get worse because it happened to me. Now I am screwed up.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Better get that pain checked. Having a pain like that for over a year is NOT normal! It could be anything...a bad ovary or cancer. The sooner you see a doctor, the sooner you can be fixed. Or maybe you don't care if you could die...and you could... of cancer.
A friend of mine waited like you did. Turned out she had cancer. She was dead within 6 months. Don't be an idiot like her.

Is it your lower back, like your right ovary? Im 21,I have a had a pain just like that, I thought it might be a muscle but then my right ovary cramps pretty bad, even when Im no where near having my period.. I havent been to the obgyn in like a year, I guess Im o.k. But yeah I try to avoid the obgyn at all cost, im with you. Guess I should go soon though.

people are afraid of cancer and problems. I have a lower back pain since I was 12, and I didn't go to the doctor, because I knew I am okay, some people freak out when life isnt perfect.

Then you may find out when it is to late
does that answer the question ?
Or, are you looking for someone to advise that they get off on it or, to get a rise out of the doc?

My friend died of ovarian cancer at the age of 21--she wouldn't go to the gyn until it was too late. What are you waiting for?

Because someday you may want to have children and wouldn't you be sorry if it turns out that your insides were rotting at 23 and you just laughed it off?

Maybe they have good insurance and no out of pocket expenses.
The self employed folks, like myself, have to think twice about rushing to the doctor.
