I am a Missouri resident, looking to start into a similair field. I'm just wondering what education is needed and what is the best way to break into such a field. If a particular school is needed can any recommend one offering similair courses around the St. Louis area? Thanks

Most morticians shoudl have at least an associates degree. Look for a reputable school of mortuary science in your area. I am not familiar with the St. Louis area but MATC in Wisconsin offers it as do a few places in CA and in Tennessee.

Ok, being a morgue assistant has nothing to do with being a mortician, as they are two VERY different careers. A mortician deals with funerals, embalming and families, while a morgue assistant only helps with opening people up for autopsies and making the incisions. From my experiences in talking to the morgue techs, the pay is not good at all. To be a mortician, you would need to go to mortuary school and then serve an apprenticeship in your state. Call your state board first to find out their requirements. Good luck and take care!

i'm not sure if you've had education already but i know that there are surprisingly a lot of mortuary science programs out there. try going through yahoo and searching "mortuary science programs". i know that there is one in pittsburg and i think there's one in kansas city.
good luck.
