actually, from what I've heard, backstage they serve beer and what not, instruct you what parts of your issues you are allowed to bring up and which ones you're not. They also dress you differently to suit the needs of the show. There are however real poeple on there at least some of the time. If this makes any sense...my ex-boyfriend's second cousin went on jerry springer once with his fiance and ex-wife (sound a bit Jerry to you yet? lol!). He and the fiance showed up dressed nicely, and the ex wife dressed slutty, however, because of the theme of the show, they re-dressed all of them. They put the ex-wife in a skirt suit, and the fiance in a tube top and mini skirt! How insulting! Also, they were instructed not to bring up the fact that he divorced his ex-wife because she continually cheated on him with other men, and flaunted it in his face. So, he and the fiance were made out to be the bad guys of the show.

The Jerry Springer Show
The Jerry Springer Show debuted on 20 September 1991. It was developed by WLWT-TV to replace its Phil Donahue Show. It started as a politically oriented talk show, a longer version of Springer's commentaries. Guests included Oliver North and Jesse Jackson, and topics included homelessness and gun politics.

Springer revamped the format of the show in order to garner higher ratings. The show became more and more successful as it became more and more lowbrow. It included outrageous situations like adulterers, post-op-transsexuals, paternity tests, the Ku Klux Klan, Nation of Islam and Black Panther Party members and other groups, and, in one of the most famous episodes, an exposee of shock rock featuring El Duce from The Mentors and GWAR. However, since 2002 female audience members are actively encouraged to expose their breasts for the cameras and are awarded strings of beads in emulation of Mardi Gras tradition.

Though under some harsh criticism, Springer has always maintained that he has no control over the guests. If they were making up their story to get their fifteen minutes of fame, he and his producers knew nothing of it. He showed outtakes in which a lesbian couple was caught lying about their affair.

On 10 July 2002, the sons of guest Nancy Campbell-Panitz, who was murdered by her ex-husband after they appeared on an episode with his girlfriend, filed suit in Sarasota County against Springer, his producers and his distributor, claiming he created "a mood that led to murder."

In 2005 a UK version was shown on ITV1 entitled The Springer Show. It beat its talkshow rival Trisha Goddard five to one in the ratings.

No, but a few have been caught by viewers taking new names and coming back on the show as "new people." Some people will do anything for an airplane ticket, hotel room and free food.

No one that in-bred could be acting.
I can't watch. It reminds me of the trailer trash from my hometown. Too damn scary for words.
