Which elections? What do you mean by 'required'?

Since your questions is not very detailed, I'm going to guess at what you mean. If I don't understand your question, I'm sorry.

Most (if not all) US States require that each party list their candidates for general elections.

Some parties (usually the Dems and the Reps) choose candidates by primary elections. People who want to run file petitions to get on the primary ballot and the winner(s) go on to the general elections.

Some parties have nominating conventions. Some are nominated by petition.

Then the government department that oversees the elections publishes a sample ballot that shows who is running for which office.
