I know that a lot of the imperfections, like cellulite, blemishes, and wrinkles, on the famous people gracing the covers and pages of magazines are photoshopped out. However, I noticed a picture of Kate Bosworth in a recent issue of Allure, and dispite the rumors of being a sub-size zero, she actually looked pretty good. Which made me wonder, are the deathly skinny celebrities photoshopped to look healthier?

You would not believe what a computer can do to make anyone looking like a top model. I have seen with my own eyes. My cousin works for one of these big magazines. First the make up is not our day to day kind of make up. Second, the poses are not how we walk, stand or look at someone. The right angle makes a skinny bum look like a nice round piece of meat. Than the computer comes (with an expect on it) and do, undo and create the perfect image on top of that person. Such an illusion.....And so many people want to be like them. Men specially think the girls are for real, and teens get frustrated for not getting the same results.

Photoshop isn't only used to alter body shapes. Sometimes a picture can be as perfect as you're going to get, but there'll be a flyaway hair or a slight "imperfection" (say freckles), and it's thought that altering it would be better. On Cindy Crawford's first magazine cover, they removed her mole! She's not a skinny model, but the point I was making is that even when it's nothing major, clients'll turn to Photoshop to get their idea of perfection.

Yep, nevermind all the lights that shine into all the lumps, bumps and wrinkles. And clothes get pinned around models so that they fit perfectly. Why do you think the gossip magazines make such a big deal about a pimple on a celeb? They are all just human beings with the same skin trouble as the rest of us.

They might be if the celebrity is doing a photo shoot for the magazine because it would the magazine look good. But for things like tabloid type photos or red carpet photos they probably leave those alone so they can point out flaws and gossip about them.

I'm sure they did as with all the recent news about skinny celebrities the magazine might have photoshopped the picture so as not to ruin it's reputation and to acheive a perfect picture that would not be critisized.

Although I can not be certain as I am not in this industry, I would most definiately say yes they do. The point is to make them look beautiful and cover all flaws - this would include the deathly thin corpses um.. er.. I mean celebrities as well.

It's a possibility, they definetly can - but i'm not sure that they always do. You're right, they do do it for their blemishes and things, for sure.
Here's a pretty cool video that shows the magic of editing:
