Apparently we need the prison places for a much more evil type of person!!...Those old men and women who have never broken the law in their lives but now through the high taxes and low pensions can't afford their ever increasing council taxes......What terrible people they must be!!! far more a danger to society than a rapist or murderer!! What a wonderful logic this government works on....when will they Wake up and join the real world?!?!?!!!

Nothing else we can do. These creatures will re-offend either inside or outside.
We got no more places inside. Each criminal got his own five stars bedroom equipped with latest HI FI and daily newspapers at his pleasure. Also a bit of hero and grass added on .
Those should be tagged and monitored all the time.

The criminal justice system in place is not perfect and neither are humans, we have to give people a chance for the most part and there will be less complaints from different organizations and the public if you allow someone to screw up several times before you throw away the key instead of doing it after the first offense. There is also the problem with activist judges who want to sentence people for ridiculously low amounts of time for very serious crimes.
yupchagee - there is no need to make everything a partisan political issue, our justice system is what it is and was formed by many people from many backgrounds.
daydoom - if you can't hold people indefinately how do you explain Charles Manson?

Because the judicial system is flawed.
Because society as a whole does not have the guts to inflict genuine punishment on those who so desperately deserve it; instead they get college degrees and cable tv so they can be a smarter, more savvy criminal when they get out of prison.

Because they have human rights. Plus there is not enough room in the jails for them, so at the first sign they seem slightly rehabilitated, they release them.

Because we don't have the money to house every criminal, Period. What crimes committed should you be locked up for life, or be executed for? Depends on the person you ask!

Because it's cheaper for government letting them fend for themselves outside rather than to bear the cost of trying to rehabilitate them inside.

Because there just isn't enough room in the prison system and we take the best of the worst and let them go, hoping that they are rehabilitated.

If your talking about people like sex criminals, they either need to be executed or thrown in jail for life, they cannot be cured.
