I had to drink a whole lot of water before my ultrasound and it was extremely uncomfortable!!! The doctor ended up asking me to go and empty my bladder halfway through, because she wasn't getting the best picture. Thank God for that! It's uncomfortable to hold in all of those fluids! Once you see your baby on that screen though, you'll forget all about your full bladder. Good luck and congrats!!

Congratulations, yes you will need to empty your bladder 1 hour before the ultrasound then drink 1L of water or at least 850 mls within the hour, Its very normal to start feeling your baby move for the first time at 20 weeks, as this is your first pregnancy, for every pregnancy after it will get earlier. It will be uncomfortable for the first few mins of the ultrasound but after the bladder, cervix, tubes, and ovaries are checked you will be allowed to empty your bladder and then the ultrasound will be all about the baby. You will be in there for approximately 20 mins to 45 mins as they check and measure everything. you can ask for the sex of the baby at this appointment and you will be given a due date that may differ from your current date. Best wishes

Call the place where you are having the ultrasound and ask but most likely you wont have to drink any unless you want to cause with the machines they have out now you don't have to drink four 8oz glasses of water before your test..And yes it's normal even if you where not overweight it's about 20 -25 weeks when you start feeling movement and sometimes it feels like you have butterflies in ur tummy instead :) congrats by the way :)

I was told to drink 32 oz of water and have it finished 30 minutes before the ultrasound. If you are a little overweight then there is a chance that you won't show like others. I could feel my son all day moving, but he really started at night, when I was ready to go to bed. I guess it is just their way of preparing you for when they are born. Good luck and congratulations!

usually they only make you drink alot of water when your like 3 months and have an ultrasound you have to have a full bladder i think it makes it easier for them to see the baby but at 20 weeks I never had to drink any water when I had my ultrasounds.....if your a little overweight thats most likely why your not really showing yet bigger girls take longer to show....if the baby is most active at night thats okay too....just count the movements your baby should move ten times in an hour.....not all the time the baby could be asleep or resting but when he is being active make sure there are at least ten movements in an hour....good luck and congrats!!

Typically they give you a sheet that tells you that you need to drink water or not. I did have to drink about 32 oz of water and then not go to the bathroom for about an hour before. This was only 15 weeks ago. You should really check with your OB's office.
With my first pregnancy (currently 35 wks) I didn't start showing until after my 20th week either.

Yes! Your doctor should have discussed this with you...call office first thing in the morning to confirm. As to you feeling the baby move only at night? Usually the reason for this is...during the day you're moving around and active, your movements act like a natural built-in rocker. It tends to lull the baby to sleep. At night, when you are less active or sleeping, there's no gentle rocking, so it tends to wake the baby up. This is how it was for me with my first baby...and it continued after he was born. It was VERY frustrating...he was so used to the sleep patterns from the womb, that my husband and I got very little sleep! As far as you not showing yet...some women show early on, some a little later, it just depends on the individual. You SHOULD discuss ANY worries, concerns or general "unknowns" with your doctor...no question is too small or dumb! Oh, congratulations!

Yes - i went for an ultrasound last week - my ultrasound was at 11.30am. I had to empty my bladder at 9.30am then drink a full litre of water between 9.30 and 10.30am. I had to hold it until after the ultrasound had been done (painful! never had to pee that bad! lol).
I have another ultrasound next week - exact same time exact same procedure!
Have fun seeing baby! It'll bring a smile to your face,,, sooo cute!!!
I am 17 wks 6 days and i'm showing but my mum didn't show with her kids (three of them) until about 7months so everyone is different!

You do not have to drink water for an ultrasound when you are pregnant. The water is only necessary for ultrasounds if you are not pregnant. Everyone shows at different times, so it is impossible to tell you what is normal for you. The ultrasound will be able to tell you if the baby is undersized. If it is not, you have nothing to worry about.

if ur doc didnt say that u should drink water, then u probably dont have to. i havent had to do so either. it might depend on the type of u/s model that the doc is using. why not just call and ask her or the receptionist?
some people dont show at all when they r pregnant. if ur overweight, this can "hide" ur bump a bit.
as long as the doc says that the baby's development and ur weight gain are normal, then i wouldnt worry.
Good luck.
