A player that is a good fantasy basketball player is one that helps in multiple categories. For example according to Yahoo!'s rankings, Shaun Marion was the #1 player last season, but he wasn't even top 10 in points scored... he was #1, because he helped teams in 3's, rebounds, steals, blocks and didn't have many turnovers... so he gave a team a big boost in 5 categories, and wasn't a liability in the others.... Carmello Anthony scored a ton more points than Marion, but didn't have near the numbers in other categories. Good luck!

Like many people have answered, you want a player that can fill in stats for you accross the board such as Lebron, KG, and Marion. You don't want one dimentional players such as Carmelo Anthony or Michael Redd who can score, but that's pretty much all they can do.
To add to what others have said, you also want players that won't hurt you in any categories such as Chauncey Billups (last year's stats) and/or Yao Ming. They can fill in numbers for you while at the same time won't tax you on other categories. Players such as Shaq will hurt you in categories such as free throw % even though when he's healthy, he'll bring in boards, points, and field goal %. Yao has been playing out of his mind so far this year and is arguablly the best active center in the NBA today.

In all honesty, it really depends what you are looking for in a fantasy player. Good fantasy players are players who accumulate statistics on a number of statistical categories such as points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, etc.
Players who usually fit this bill are Yahoo's big three of LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, and Shawn Marion. The aforementioned players will give you a lot of statistics (which are translated into points) for your team.
Other players that I feel are good fantasy players are Ray Allen and Jason Kidd.
Hope this was helpful.

A good fantasy player is one who can play more than one pasition has a high percentage in both fgs and fts,can make 3 pt shots ,rebound, plays some defense(steals and blocks)and does not throw the ball away T.O. a all around player who can fill many roster postions. say as a PF/c or PF/SF or SF/SG. my choice right now M,REED Mil. he your fantasy best right now. 57 points one game high FG % FT % 16/18 one game.does not turn the ball over much.Thats the type of player who makes a good fantasy basketball player.good stats not bad stats.

A PLAYER THAT CAN DO ALMOST EVERYTHING. almost because a center cant be a good assist guy, while a guard cant be a good blocks guy.
