woman weren't built to have periods every month and it does not harm them to go without them... my girlfriend is allergic to seasonal so she takes Yasmin continuously and cannot have periods due to the pain and other symptoms of endometriosis... it is perfectly fine for her and actually has benefits like not losing iron and can reduce risks of some cancer, anyways as for the swallowing pills thing, she can try putting it in peanut butter or something crunchy that she doesnt mind swallowing, or what I do is moisten the pill in my mouth and then dry swallow it and then drink a lot of water but if I try to take it normally i freak out, also with the pills try to avoid pills with gel caps because they can have side effects (heartburn), esp for people who dont take pills well

I would suggest getting your daughter off the patch. There are a lot of people suing the company who makes them. They have a lot higher risk of causing blood clots. My cousin was one of the people who was on the patch and got a blood clot. After investigation, the doctor should not of even given her the patch, she didn't way enough - you have to be between a certain weight range to be on it. She has a law suit against the patch company, after the lawyer looking into it, they have discovered that a lot of people are suing because of this problem, the patch should be used as an absolute last resort. The patch co may not be getting the info they need out to the docs, maybe it's cause it's new, & there's a lack of research. And if your daughter is on it, she better be following the directions correctly. The birth control pills are tiny, they shouldn't be hard to swallow. Or you could get her the shot.

Get her off the patch!! For one, the patch has little known side effects, but has been shown to even be deadly because of the hormone absorption through the skin. Compared to the pill, which is absorbed slowly in the GI tract, the patch gives too much. Some studies have shown that is has been as much as 5 times. This has caused respiratory and cardiac stress. Also, why is she on the birth control? The real reason? Is it because SHE told you she didn't like her periods, because she may be sexually active without your knowledge. If it truly is that her periods are so bad, give her some Motrin or something. Be an intelligent mom.

Chances are, no it won't hurt her. You may have heard in the news that contraceptives can cause clotting and heart attacks. This is more likely in people that are already predisposed to those types of events and with the older types of birth control. For example, the chances are that about 7 cases per 100,000 users/year in women younger than 40 will have a heart attack. For women 40-45 that smoke 15 cigarrettes/day, their chances are 185 cases per 100,000 users per year. If she's relatively healthy, she should be fine. By the way, seasonale has the same ingredients in it, it is just given by mouth. Also, she should be taking it for 3 weeks, and then taking a week off, not 2 or 3 months. Any other use is not supported by the manufacturer.

She shouldn't be on birth control unless 1. it's medically necessary for issues like pcos, or 2. she's sexually active. The cramps are nothing compared to possible complications that could arise from the use of b.c. (no matter how slim they are).
She just needs to practice taking pills. You can put the pill in a glass of water and tell her to chug it as fast as she can. That will open the throat to larger quantities and she won't feel the pill slide down.

Seasonal is the worst birth control ever. I took that and I had the worst cramps ever and I had a period for 3 months straight. My doctor put me on Yaz and it works great and I don't have cramps and my period is only 3 days long.

13 and on birth control..wow...how things have changed...the patch is to be changed on the same day ever week for 3 weeks..you will not be wearing one when you are on your period...if you do not follow the directions for use then yes it is not good for you...but let me also tell you about the patch...they can cause serious health problems and if you are around babies or young children you have to be careful that you do not touch the patch and then touch them or let the patch touch them...i really recommend her getting on the pill instead...they are really tiny...you will never know that you are taking one.

I actually read something recently (if only I could remember where...) going along with what the guy above me said.... in the old days (oh that term - haha) women didn't have their period every month. first of all they didn't reach sexual maturity until much later in life. then they would get pregnant as soon as they started menstruating and would breast feed after giving birth and then get pregnant soon after. it has been hypothesized that one of the reasons for the great increase for cancer in women's reproductive organs is because of all the hormonal cycles that we are constantly going through that aren't "natural" considering what our distant relatives went through.....
so in answer to your question, no I don't think skipping periods is that big of a deal.

talk to the gyno who prescribed it. Are the cramps horrid, because it's pretty unorthodox for a child so young to be on them. There are risks for all the birth control because of the hormones. Risks like heart attack, stroke, weight gain, etc.
