I have been trying to be really careful with what I say because I can be very blunt and sometimes people get very offended by things I say. How can I phrase things to make sure that they arent offensive?

For example this was a recent conversation of mine:

Joey - I've just been really busy lately, trying to catch everything up around the house.
Me- Well thats okay babe, if you want we can talk later tonight or tommorow
Joey- Daniel, thats not what I meant

and then he got off line ... was I rude?

It's the exact same way with me, I never say anything offensive or even close to offensive, but my voice does this thing that makes it sound that way, I've noticed it's the same way with all of my other gay friends...weird huh? Must be a gay thing. It's weird I know, just maybe try to show a lot more sympathy in your voice when you say things like that.

It really doesn't sound rude to me.
I'm always putting my foot in it, if I speak without thinking. All I can do is try to hold back a bit and try to work out what the other person wants before I speak.
In your example, I'd have been as puzzled as you! Maybe he was just knackered and stressed out, and didn't mean to sound like he was getting at you.
Hope you can work things out with him.
