The short answer is it depends. The long answer is:
1. It depends on the type of electric pump. Double pumping will produce the most milk.
2. It depends on the time of day. Most women find they will get the most milk first thing in the morning. If you are pumping to establish a supply in preparation for return to work then pump for 20 minutes each morning after you nurse your son. There is also the highest milk production from 1am to 5am for some reason. (I read this on kellymom.com)
3. It depends on how well you respond to the pump. I've been pumping exclusively for my twins for 10 months and I can get 16 ounces in under 10 minutes first thing in the morning. On the other hand, I have friends who it takes 30 minutes to get 4 ounces from the pump.
4. If you are pumping because you will be working full time it really helps to get a quality electric pump like the Medela Pump in Style or the Ameda Purely Yours. I've had great results with both of these.
5. The previous poster is wrong about damage to the nipples if you pump longer than 20 minutes. My lactation consultant actually recommended that I pump 30 minutes in the beginning to get my supply up.
I highly recommend using kellymom.com!

Let me be the first to tell you... unfortunatly i have never gotten a full 8 ounces out of just one pumping. In fact it takes me a good hour to get 4 ounces. i rarely ever get that! Sometimes i can only pump 2 ounces in an hour. Last night i had a huge let down though and pumped about 6 ounces in an hour and i could have kept going ( i was still letting down). Some women can never really pump that much because their bodies just know the differance between the pump and the baby. I find what helps is nursing while im pumping and i tend to get more in a shorter amount of time that way. Good luck with pumping ( i dont enjoy it very much) and hope all goes well for you!

8 oz would probably be two feedings worth....most breastfed babies don't take more than 3-5 oz at a time when they take a bottle.
With a double electric pump, it would probably take at least two pumping sessions (15 mins each) to get that much milk unless you've got an amazing supply. You should never pump for more than 20 mins in one pumping session. You could damage your nipples.

It depends on the woman and the pump. I had far, far better luck with an "industrial-strength" pump rented from the hospital than a "consumer grade" pump. Even so, I was one of those women who has low milk output, so it would take me quite awhile.

If you do it after every feeding it should only take a week or two. Maybe even less if you have a good supply.
(By that I mean get your body used to pumping 8 oz regularly. I had to work my body up to it. I guess others are luckier than me!)

it took me up to 20 minutes to get 8oz. i found that it works a lot better if you have a picture of your baby to look at while pumping, it stimulates your brain and the brain stimulates the milk production.

ok, i don't be attentive to the solutions to all your questions (sorry!), yet, some concepts: i could wait to get the pump till after your infant is born. (in case you purchase it till now nevertheless, do no longer open the kit on account which you in elementary terms isn't waiting to return it). it is pronounced which you do no longer furnish a infant a bottle till they're 6-8 weeks previous besides. it extremely is to avert them from springing up "nipple confusion," it extremely is while they start up rejecting the breast by way of fact eating from a bottle is far less complicated/much less artwork. So, till then, you ought to nurse. I solely pumped for 3 a million/2 months, and, believe ME, it is far less complicated just to nurse. much less artwork for you!! yet, of direction you'll want a pump by way of fact there will be situations once you will ought to feed your infant from a bottle. once you're merely pumping each so often then a handbook pump is possibly ok. i could under no circumstances propose a handbook pump nevertheless in case you ought to do it often. maximum pumping mothers propose the Medela in form (electric powered). it is the ultimate accessible on the marketplace. it is high priced, yet, in case you pump often (ie a number of situations an afternoon) then you definately extremely and extremely want it. concerning your different questions -- a pair of bottles ought to be superb. in case you eventually finally end up wanting extra down the line you ought to purchase them later. Milk storage luggage are a robust theory in case you intend to shop your milk interior the freezer. could besides get a small kit of them. it is going to take merely 15-20 minutes to drain your breasts (it does not unavoidably recommend you will get an entire bottle nevertheless). With an medical institution grade digital pump, it took me approximately 15 minutes to get 5 oz. It takes a number of weeks to get to that factor nevertheless. before everything i could merely get like an oz... you do no longer want a bottle warmer. in case you shop milk interior the freezer, then merely enable it thaw interior the refrigerator and a jiffy till now you're waiting to apply it, take it out and heat it in warm water. individually, I under no circumstances saved milk interior the freezer. Breastmilk lasts a number of days interior the refrigerator. stable success!
