Matt Dillon. I tend to like those strong, silent types of guys! Plus, I loved the on-going 'are they or aren't they' storyline with Miss Kitty!

Bret Maverick.
He was funnier and far more clever. His moral ambiguity made him more interesting as well.
Marshall Dillon was tougher and more of a "straight shooter", but not completely lilly white.
Both shows and characters were great!
But my favourite western characters on TV remain James West, Artamus Gordon and Al Swearengen.
