Well, Lord of the Rings is the most obvious answer, and it sure is a good one, but I'm gonna have to say the best trilogy is Krzysztof Kieslowski's "Three Colours"-trilogy, Blue, White and Red (or Bleu, Blanc et Rouge, if you're fancy French-speaking person like me)
