Does anyone know how much the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts will help in college? (I am a Star Scout, two ranks below).
Please give a fairly detailed answer please?

It does help a bit, but not that much. It's equivalent to playing JV soccer. I know someone who was Eagle Scout, top ten in class, and decent at hockey, but still ended up going to URI. Someone else ranked lower than him got into Amherst and Brown because he was the editor-in-chief of the school literary magazine and captain of XC. As you can see, Eagle Scout is not weighted as much as some of the other extra-curriculars. Because not everyone can afford the money to be in boy scouts, but anyone can be the editor as long as she/he works really hard at it.

Colleges and Universities all look at your extra curricular activities. In order to reach the rank of Eagle scout, you have to perform a wide variety of tasks, and take part in many leadership opportunities. I know for a fact, if you were to enlist in the Military, you automatically get raised at least on pay grade when you join. I also know that the Boy Scouts of America has several scholarships available for eagle scouts.

Good Luck.

An Eagle Scout Rank helps in many situations, especially as you are very close. My son earned his Eagle. It did not really help much in college, although it didnt hurt. It did impress the people he interviewed with and it gave him the edge to get the job he has. Many Human Relation places are impressed with an Eagle because it shows you have the strength and knowledge to complete a varied and challenging course of study over a long period of time. Some admissions people in some colleges were impressed. My son was told he could apply to get into the Military colleges with that. A presidential commendation is not something some colleges take lightly. It certainly is not something future employers take lightly.

It is true, the major factors that determine college admission are GPA and SAT scores. However, with very competitive schools, where nearly every applicant has the same objective credentials, it's the extra curricular activities that will set you apart. Additionally, achieving Eagle Scout, while not necessarily a huge advantage over Star Scout as far as being admitted, could open other doors such as scholarships, great recommendations, networking, and fodder for admissions essays. My brother reached Eagle and he used his experiences to answer essay questions about leadership and community service.

I'm sorry to say that I don't know the answer to this question, specifically. As someone else said, it can't hurt. Consider broadening your extracurriculars to include other activities and sports. It's possible some may find it funny that you've pursued Boy/Eagle Scouts for so long but really it's admirable and you're right to shake that kind of stuff off. I suspect you'll be the kind of guy who's good, desirable marriage material while those who laugh are insecure and/or current "bad boys" who will not end up going as far as you will. Keep up the good work and good luck.
